The top three FREE AV products out there are:
Avira
Avast
AVG

Avira is the best at finding viruses without running a manual scan but it sends pop-ups occasionally asking you to buy the full version with extra bells and whistles.

Avast would be your best bet if you dont like the pop-ups that come with Avira. You will also want to partner your AV up with Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes plugs the holes that AV isnt designed to fill. They are made to work together and having them both gives you the best protection going.

You can find links to all of this stuff at the site below
References :
http://www.myvirusremoval.com

you can safely run the following programs on your laptop without any conflicts. But you must remove Norton first.
1. Avast Home Edtion > download here > http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10019223.html?tag=mncol

Avast requires registration for a free 1 year license key. register here > http://www.avast.com/eng/home-registration.php

2. Superantispyware Free Edition > http://www.avast.com/eng/home-registration.php

3. Malwarebytes Free Edition > http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

Look here if you want to get the full version of Malwarebytes, it will give you real time protection > http://www.virusforum.net/showthread.php?tid=122 You must register to have access to the keys :P
References :
http://www.virusforum.net/index.php

What are free security options for laptops?
I recently got a new Compaq laptop with no security besides a 60 day trial from Norton. Any good free alternatives? Also would any of them clash together if more were downloaded?
